TU Dublin is delighted to share that StudentVolunteer.ie has been recognised with the “Most Innovative Digital Transformation” award at The Education Awards 2026.

StudentVolunteer.ie is a national collaborative initiative that connects students with meaningful community volunteering opportunities. The platform supports the development of key employability and civic skills while enabling students to contribute to addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through innovative digital design, StudentVolunteer.ie makes it easier for students and institutions to engage with, record and showcase volunteering activity at scale.

TU Dublin is proud to be part of the seven-institution higher education partnership that manages StudentVolunteer.ie, alongside the University of Limerick, University College Cork, University College Dublin, Atlantic Technological University, Dublin City University and the University of Galway.

The award was accepted at the ceremony on Friday, 17 April, by the Programme Manager for StudentVolunteer.ie, Dr Lorraine Tansey, who acknowledged the collective effort behind the achievement:

“Congratulations to all our Student Volunteers, our Student Volunteering Staff Teams, our Community and Nonprofit Partners, our Boards and supportive colleagues. And thank you to HEAnet and our technical partners who support us.”

Commenting on the announcement, Christy O’Shea, Senior Manager – Sport, Societies & Student Life highlighted TU Dublin’s long-standing involvement in the initiative:

“It is fantastic to see StudentVolunteer.ie recognised with this award. TU Dublin has been proud to support this project over the past number of years, with significant work across the sector to enhance usability and help more higher education institutions recognise the value of promoting and capturing volunteering activity in a simple, meaningful way.

This recognition highlights the national importance of volunteering in higher education and the positive impact students have on communities every day. At TU Dublin, the platform has helped us better capture and showcase the scale of the excellent work undertaken by our students and the positive impact it creates.”

The award recognises StudentVolunteer.ie as a leading example of how digital innovation can enhance civic engagement and strengthen connections between higher education institutions and communities nationwide.
