TU Dublin and Amazon Celebrate a Decade of Success with Data Centre Technician Programme
Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) and Amazon are celebrating a decade of successful collaboration on the Data Centre Technician Programme, a flagship initiative supporting the development of skilled technicians for Ireland’s growing technology and digital infrastructure sector.
To mark the milestone, Amazon executives presented €35,000 to TU Dublin, which will support upgrades to laboratory equipment used on the Data Centre Technician Programme, ensuring students continue to train using the latest industry‑relevant technologies.
TU Dublin’s Data Centre Technician Programme has provided a clear pathway into data centre careers over the past 10 years, with approximately 20 participants completing the course annually. Delivered over two semesters of evening instruction, followed by a 14‑week work placement at an Amazon data centre, the programme combines academic learning with practical, hands‑on industry experience. The outcomes have been consistently strong, with almost all graduates securing full‑time employment in data centres upon completion.
Commenting on the programme’s impact, Professor Pramod Pathak, Dean, Faculty of Computing, Digital and Data, TU Dublin, said: “We are delighted with the Data Centre Technician Programme. Our collaboration with Amazon ensures students learn from a global leader in cloud infrastructure, making it one of the fastest ways to start a career in the technology industry.”
The long‑standing collaboration between TU Dublin and Amazon demonstrates the value of industry‑aligned education in preparing learners for high‑demand technical roles, while strengthening Ireland’s digital infrastructure workforce.
Niamh Gallagher, Country Lead for AWS in Ireland, commented on the programme's 10 year milestone:
This is the type of programme we love to support. Our work with TU Dublin has created clear pathways into Amazon careers for people in the communities where we operate, and this latest support reflects our continued commitment for this programme.
Collaboration is at the very heart of the TU Dublin mission and the university places a high value on developing mutually beneficial relationships. The Data Centre Technician Programme forms part of a wider strategic collaboration between TU Dublin and Amazon, spanning skills development, innovation, sustainability, and community engagement. The company has played a key role in driving TU Dublin’s cloud computing programmes to global standards, providing sustained support for hackathons, skills jams, and the WorldSkills Cloud Computing programme. This includes the provision of specialist platforms and technical expertise.
