Sarah O’Dwyer of SABE said: “We in SABE are excited by the opportunities that this funding facilitates to build further and wider on our existing creative climate action research and teaching. Students will engage with real world projects to make the case – creatively and practically – for reusing and retaining our existing building stock over demolition. They will engage in creative spatial practice, cross industry collaboration and live project learning to contribute to a Climate Impact Assessment tool with the potential to shape planning policy in Fingal and beyond.”
Islander Architects said “ This new funding allows Islander Architects to build on our Demolition Take Down project to move from raising awareness to taking climate action by championing reuse over demolition. By partnering with SABE and Fingal County Council we are using our hometown of Balbriggan as a ‘supply site’ for a reciprocal exchange of materials and data, designed to improve carbon literacy among the public and professionals. We aim to create an open-source model for systemic change providing a primer for Local Authorities and Universities nationwide. We believe this project is an import step to shift construction policy toward a more resilient future.”
Helena Fitzgerald, Head of Societal Engagement says: “We are delighted with this award to SABE for Demolition Take Down: Assemblages which aims to create enduring change in perceptions and behaviours regarding construction waste. TU Dublin has significant strengths in using arts practice and creativity to address climate change and I look forward to the engagement with the Balbriggan community, Fingal County Council and construction industry stakeholders.”
