TU Dublin Staff Honoured as Fáilte Ireland Conference Ambassadors at RDS Awards
Staff from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment & Apprenticeships and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities were recently recognised at the Fáilte Ireland 2025 Conference Ambassador Recognition Awards, held at the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) on 27 November 2025. These awards celebrate individuals who have played a pivotal role in bringing international association conferences to Ireland between 2023 and 2024.
Ger Reilly, Head of Apprenticeship and Further Education, and Professor Emeritus Mike Murphy from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, were honoured for their leadership in attracting and hosting the 51st Annual Conference of the European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI) at TU Dublin in September 2023. Their work, supported by colleagues and students from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, as well as staff and students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the East Quad and partners from Conference Organisers, ensured the smooth delivery of an event that explored how engineers can address global sustainability challenges.
The conference highlighted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the essential role of engineers in shaping effective economic, political, social, and cultural responses. Our partnerships in higher education enable us to share this innovative model, enhancing educational standards worldwide and promoting a generation of globally competent professionals.
Dr Lorraine O’Connell, Dr Mary Lennon, and Dr Hannah Millington were also recognised for their leadership in bringing the 31st Annual Conference of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS) to Dublin in June 2024. The wider organising team also included Dr Helen Lawlor and Dr Clíona Doris. Focused on the theme Traditions in Transformation, the conference convened music educators, researchers, and students from across Europe and beyond to examine how societal, political, and technological changes are reshaping contemporary music education.
Both conference teams extended their appreciation to Dr Paul McNulty, Head of TU Dublin Conservatoire, and Dr Orla McDonagh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, for their support. Dr McDonagh also attended the celebratory event in the RDS. Hosted at the East Quad in Grangegorman, both conferences required extensive collaboration across schools and the dedicated involvement of professional and technical support staff, whose contributions were central to their success.
