TU Dublin Take Home a Whopping 5 Awards at BICS
On the 2nd of April 2026, 70 TU Dublin students headed to the Tullamore Court Hotel, Offaly, for this year’s National Society Awards, run by the Board of Irish College Societies (BICS). Students from all five campuses rallied together in hopes of bringing home some glassware.
They arrive at the hotel at 10am. Unfortunately, most of them did not get to enjoy the facilities straight away, as they had to interview with judging panels made up of society staff, alums, and students from across the country. Interviews took up most of the day, but as soon as they’re done, it’s time to check into the hotel and get glammed up for the banquet and awards ceremony.
Excitement and nerves filled the room as each college and university began cheering and chanting when their names were called.
TU Dublin has done exceptionally, taking home a whopping 5 wins:
First up is Media Society on our Tallaght campus, which won Best New Society (small campus). In their first year running, they have gained 123 members and have created a space for videographers, designers and other creatives alike.

Shane Doherty of Nerd, Neurodivergent and Media Society, all on Tallaght campus, won Best Individual (Small Campus) for his innovation, contributions and personal development.

Not only did Shane win, but Nerd Society also won an award of their own for Best Society in a Cultural/Social Field (Small Campus). Nerd Society is very well organised within its committee, which has allowed it to run multiple events, gatherings and socials throughout the year.

ESN Society (Erasmus) took home an award for Most Improved Society (Large Campus). This year, the Erasmus-focused society increased its membership by 270 people. This huge jump was due to their improved recruitment process, which allowed the society to achieve overall success through more events and collaborations throughout the year.

Ailis O’Connor of Dance Society won Best Individual (Large Campus). Over her 4 years, she has helped shape Dance Society into the powerful entity it is today, and Dance Society has shaped Ailis, allowing her to find her “chosen family” and for her creativity to flourish.

We are extremely proud of the work all students and Societies’ put into their work this year.
