Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) was delighted to welcome Deputy Emer Currie, TD for Dublin West, to our Blanchardstown Campus for a positive and constructive meeting to explore the potential for establishing a second Garda training college at the campus. The proposal aims to strengthen Garda recruitment and ensure training is aligned with the evolving demands of modern policing.

Deputy Currie was welcomed to campus by Sally Anne Sherry, Director of People and Operations; Dr Étaín Kidney, Director and Dean of Business; and Dr Brian Murphy, Government and Community Advocacy Lead.

The current Programme for Government includes consideration of a second Garda training college, which could enable Garda trainees to complete part of their training in regionally based universities and technological universities.

TU Dublin’s Blanchardstown Campus is well positioned to support this ambition. Located in one of the country’s fastest-growing population centres, the campus benefits from significant regional infrastructure, proximity to the National Sports Campus and access to a growing technology corridor.

The campus could also offer valuable opportunities to integrate emerging areas of expertise into Garda education and training, including digital capabilities, cybersecurity and emerging technologies, helping to prepare future Gardaí for the increasingly complex challenges of modern policing.

TU Dublin is grateful to Deputy Currie for her continued work on this proposal and looks forward to further exploring how the University’s facilities, expertise and regional connections could potentially contribute to strengthening Garda recruitment and training in Ireland.
