How do I apply for Garda Vetting?

Applying for Garda Vetting is a two-step process:

  1. Student submits Vetting Invitation Form (NVB) and supporting documents to the Vetting Office/designated staff member for validation.
  2. Student issued link to complete online application via Vetting E-Portal.

Vetting Invitation Forms (NVB1/3) will be distributed directly to students registered on programmes requiring Garda Vetting clearance. The form contains a check list, set of guidelines and list of supporting documents required.

Students under 18 also required to submit a Parent/Guardian Consent Form (NVB3) along with Vetting Invitation Forms (NVB1).

Step One - Completing Your Vetting Application

Form is to be completed by hand using BLOCK CAPTITALS.

Your name and address listed on form must match the supporting documents. Students with double-barrelled/hyphenated surnames should pay particular attention to this.

In Section 2, read the consent notice, tick the consent box, and sign and date form. Pay careful attention as errors will make the application null and void and you will be required to resubmit.

Students under 18 also required to submit a Parent/Guardian Consent Form (NVB3) along with Vetting Invitation Forms (NVB1).

Please refer to the guidelines and checklist to assist with completing and submitting a vetting application. View Sample Vetting Application

Application Validation

All vetting applications must be validated in person by a designated staff member of TU Dublin. Applications received by post/email will be returned unprocessed.

Attend your vetting workshop/local vetting desk to validate your application. The validator will inspect the application, complete a check list and approve your application for submission if all in order.

The validated Vetting paperwork is then returned to Vetting Office for processing and the student will receive an e-vetting link to complete step 2. Monitor your student email for this update. E-Vetting link normally issued within 5 working days of application validation.

Step Two – Completing your E-Vetting

Admissions staff upload your Vetting paperwork to Garda Vetting E-Portal and a link to complete online application will be issued by student email. Students then have 30 days to complete this stage of the application.

You may track a vetting application online via the National Vetting Bureau website.

Please note, all E-Vetting Portal correspondence is emailed form evetting.donotreply@garda.ie, not TU Dublin.

Once the student’s information has been inputted into the Garda vetting system, an email will be sent to the students e-mail account with log in details to the Garda e-vetting portal. Students have 30 days to complete their online application before the invitation lapses.

It takes up to 4 weeks for vetting disclosure to be returned from the time the student completes their full online application on the Garda e-vetting portal.

Students who fail to make the full application within the 30 days will be required to submit a new vetting application. This will delay vetting process.

The Garda Vetting Committee meets regularly to review Garda vetting applications. Based on the information returned by the National Vetting Bureau, the Garda Vetting Committee decides whether the student is cleared for placement. Students will be notified by email regarding the results of their Garda Vetting Disclosure.
