Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) is delighted to be playing an integral part in the €6.5 million PEACE-Air (Partnership for Evidence and Action on Clean Air) project, a major cross-border initiative aimed at tackling air pollution and improving public health. TU Dublin will collaborate on this initiative with fellow scientists and professionals, North and South, to deliver on the PEACE-Air project.

The TU Dublin Mobile Air Research Lab (MARL) is a key contributor to the consortium and the lab’s unique suite of monitoring equipment was instrumental in securing the funding. The funding will enable the purchase of Ireland’s first real-time Ammonia monitor, enhance MARL capabilities, and support the recruitment of one postdoctoral researcher and two PhD students to contribute to the project.

TU Dublin is proud to contribute significant expertise through its Air Quality Research Group, recognised as crucial to the success of this multi-million Euro partnership. TU Dublin staff serve as joint Principal Investigators (PIs) in two of the project’s four work packages: Dr Eoin McGillicuddy on agricultural emissions and Prof. Pat Goodman on cross-cutting health aspects.

Prof. Goodman brings over 40 years of experience in air quality and health research, having served as an expert advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), and the European Union. His expertise was pivotal to the successful grant application and will play a key role in the delivery of the project.

Dr McGillicuddy is the Head of Chemical Sciences in the School of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Sciences, TU Dublin, he has worked in air quality for over 15 years where his research has focussed on the chemical characterisation of atmospheric pollutants. He is currently the PI of two other EPA funded projects IMAGE and MAMALS and is co-lead of the Research Ireland funded CRAWL project.

Other TU Dublin Air Quality team members involved include Prof. Jesus Frias Celayeta, Dr Eugene Hickey, Dr Aoife Donnelly, Dr Dervil Cody, Dr Meheal Fennelly, Dr Vivien Corona Ramirez and Dr Lorraine D’Arcy.

Congratulations to all team members involved.
