Nationwide Survey on Research Integrity in Ireland - Now Open

Published: 3 Jul, 2025

The Survey on Research Integrity in Ireland 2025 (SRII2025) is now officially open to researchers across the country. This landmark initiative is the first comprehensive, nationwide survey aimed at assessing the state of research integrity within Irish universities, technological universities, and other higher education and research institutions.

The SRII2025 seeks to better understand the factors that support or hinder Responsible Research Practices (RRPs), as well as the prevalence of Unacceptable Research Practices (URPs) and serious forms of research misconduct, including falsification, fabrication, and plagiarism.

Commissioned by the National Research Integrity Forum and funded by the Higher Education Authority, the survey is hosted on a secure platform managed by a trusted external provider. This ensures complete anonymity for all participants. The research analysis will be carried out by a team at University College Dublin (UCD), which will not receive any identifying information about respondents or their institutions.

The goal of the SRII2025 is to evaluate how research environments influence behaviours across different disciplines, institutions, and career stages. It also aims to identify how factors such as organisational justice, mentoring, work pressure, and social support affect researchers’ ability to conduct work responsibly.

Eligible participants include faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, research fellows, research scientists, and postgraduate students who conduct research for at least eight hours per week. While the essential contributions of technical officers, research managers, and administrators are acknowledged, these roles have been excluded from this study to ensure consistency with similar international surveys.

The survey takes approximately 25 minutes to complete and is available at: https://srii2025.ie

The data collected will contribute to developing informed policies and targeted actions to support research integrity across Ireland's academic and scientific communities.
