To mark World Intellectual Property Day 2025, the Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Office at TU Dublin (TU Dublin Innovation) is turning up the volume on creativity with this year’s global theme: ‘IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP.’
This celebration shines a spotlight on the essential role of intellectual property (IP) rights play in empowering musical creativity and sustaining a dynamic, inclusive music industry. From protecting original works to enabling fair recognition and rewards, IP is the rhythm behind every great idea. TU Dublin Innovation offers tailored support to help students, staff, and researchers understand and use IP to amplify their impact; whether they’re making music, designing techologies, or breaking new ground in research.
Taking place annually on April 26th, World IP Day 2025 highlights the pivotal role IP rights play in enabling songwriters, composers, performers, producers, and music entrepreneurs to thrive. It also celebrates the broader ecosystem of innovators and inventors who develop the tools, platforms, and technologies reshaping the music landscape for creators and audiences alike.
Dr Paul Maguire; Head of Innovation and Knowledge Transfer at TU Dublin commented:
Music is an expression of culture, identity, and innovation. At TU Dublin Innovation, we’re committed to supporting the creators and technologists who are driving the future of music. Intellectual property rights protect their work, fuel their ambitions, and help bring their ideas to life.
The university’s Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Office continues to support emerging artists and tech startups through IP guidance, collaborative research, and access to funding and mentorship. Working as a Hub for innovation and technology transfer activities since 2007, TU Dublin Innovation collaborates with students, lecturers, and researchers across the University to create tangible outputs from research, business, and product ideas.
