Moazzam S. B. Syed, a final year PhD researcher at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in TU Dublin, has been honoured with the Digital Green Tech Award 2025 for High Potential in Sustainable Development, presented by the German Federal Ministry for Research, Science, and Technology. The highly competitive international award recognises outstanding early career researchers whose work demonstrates exceptional promise in advancing digital technologies for sustainable development. This year, only 20 awardees from 13 countries were selected for this prestigious recognition.

Moazzam, who is funded by Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland ADVANCE CRT, and is a member of the Towards People Oriented Technology (tPOT) Research Centre at TU Dublin, is supervised by Dr Damon Berry, Dr Paul Stacey, and Ms Paula Kelly. His PhD research focuses on leveraging digital innovation and information systems to support data-driven decision-making and policy for environmental sustainability.

As part of the award, Moazzam will receive a €6,000 research grant to support a three-month research stay at a German institution, mentorship from leading German scientists, and participation in a fully funded summer school in Germany.

This recognition is both humbling and inspiring. It reinforces the global relevance of my research and provides an incredible opportunity to collaborate internationally on sustainable digital technologies.
