The Royal Irish Academy, founded in 1785, is an all-island independent forum of peer-elected experts. With fewer than 700 living Members, election to the Academy is one of the highest accolades in Irish academic life. Members are entitled to use the designation ‘MRIA’ after their names and are called upon to advise government and society on issues of critical importance.

Commenting on the new Members, RIA President Professor Pat Guiry, said:

“We are delighted to welcome the newly elected Members of the Royal Irish Academy. Our mission is to recognise and foster academic excellence, and to create, curate and share knowledge for the good of society. Your election today embodies this mission, and your insights and achievements will enrich the work of the Academy.”

Professor Galligan’s election is a powerful example of TU Dublin’s academic community contributing to national and international dialogue, research, and policymaking. It further underscores the University’s commitment to excellence, inclusion, and impact in the public sphere.

Congratulations to Professor Galligan on this exceptional and well-deserved recognition.
