World Sight Day at TU Dublin: Exploring the future of assistive technology
As part of World Sight Day 2026 in TU Dublin, members of the TU Dublin community and the wider public are invited to join Dr Dympna O’Sullivan, Director of Research, Innovation and External Engagement at TU Dublin, and Stuart Lawler, Head of Digital Content and Business Development Manager at Sight and Sound Technology Ireland, for a fireside conversation exploring the future of assistive technology.
Fireside CHAT: ‘From Innovation to Impact: Can Ireland Lead the Next Generation of Assistive Technology?’ will take place on Monday 12th October from 5.15pm - 6pm in CQ-009, Central Quad.
The relaxed conversation will explore how research, technology, lived experience, policy and practice can come together to drive innovation and create meaningful impact in assistive technology. The discussion will be followed by questions and an opportunity for discussion with the CHAT community.
The fireside chat forms part of a wider programme of World Sight Day at TU Dublin events taking place on 12th and 13th October, hosted by the Digital Futures Research Hub and the School of Computer Science at TU Dublin, in collaboration with Sight and Sound Technology.
Across the two days, the programme will bring together students, researchers, educators and industry partners to explore developments in assistive technology research and innovation. Activities include an Assistive Technology Exhibition in the Central Quad foyer, research and collaboration sessions, a CHAT: Research in Action session, low vision simulation, PPI Ignite partner activities and workshops from the Access2CS project and the School of Computer Science.
The event is recognised as an Associated Event of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
