Dr Keith Murphy is a lecturer and researcher in the School of Social Science, Law and Education in TU Dublin. He holds a PhD in anthropology and researches and publishes around, the anthropology of disability, neurodiversity, higher education, and inclusive education and is a dyslexic thinker. His PhD thesis, titled ‘Experiencing Dyslexia Through the Prism of Difference’, explores how dyslexia impacts students’ experiences at higher education. Keith is an outspoken advocate for neurodiverse learners, drawing on his own life journey as he was diagnosed with dyslexia as an adult in 2017, which transformed his understanding and motivated his research and advocacy. Keith received the MAP Alumni Achievement Award from Maynooth University, awarded to graduates who progress to inspiring, impactful careers. He has shared his personal journey in recorded webinars (e.g. “Seen but Unseen”), which are used as educational resources by advocacy organisations such as Dyslexia Ireland. In 2024, he participated in a documentary broadcast on national television (RTÉ) and spoke on Ireland AM, offering an academic and lived-experience perspective on dyslexia, helping raise awareness and promote inclusive practices. He has recently won the TU Dublin Research and Innovation award for Community Engaged Research. Keith’s interdisciplinary research interests span the fields of education, anthropology, social inclusion and equality, and neurodiversity.
