Plasma PLUS at a Primary School
PlasmaPlus member Ciara McEvoy returned to her former primary school, Ballinamoney National School, on 27 March 2026 to share her passion for science with students across all classes.
During the visit, Ciara introduced students to the wonders of science through fun and thought-provoking questions such as “Why is grass green?” and “What is the scientific name for table salt?” These questions encouraged students to think about the science behind everyday things.
The sessions also featured a series of exciting hands-on demonstrations, including exploring the non-Newtonian properties of custard, discovering how electricity can travel through our bodies using conductivity sticks, powering a clock with orange juice, and testing the pH of sodium bicarbonate and vinegar.

The activities and fun facts were a big hit with every class. Students asked many curious and insightful questions, showing great enthusiasm and sparking their interest in understanding how the world around them works.
It was a pleasure for Ciara to return to Ballinamoney NS and share these experiences with the students, and she hopes to have the opportunity to visit again in the future.
