Welcome
subtext
A Critical Media Symposium
subtext is a one-day multidisciplinary symposium hosted by the Creative Digital Media programme at TU Dublin. It brings together current students, and recent graduates to share work, exchange ideas, and engage in critical conversation about what it means to be a media practitioner in the world today.
This is a space for sharing critically-engage project work, research essays, creative artefacts, and everything in between. We want to hear from you, our students and graduates. We want your work to go beyond the classroom or studio.
subtext will run across one full day as two panels - morning and afternoon - with space for sharing ideas, but also for open discussion and socialising.
Who Can Submit?
subtext is open to:
- All current students in the Creative Digital Media programme, TU Dublin
- Creative Digital Media graduates of any year
- Students from other programmes within the School of Media
You do not need to be in your final year. If you have work (a project, a critical reflection, an artefact, etc.) that engages with any of the themes of the event, we want to hear from you.
Why Contribute?
Whether you are a first-year student just beginning to think critically about media, a final-year student preparing to move into postgraduate study or industry, or a graduate several years out — subtext is for you.
Contributing gives you the opportunity to:
- Share your work with an audience beyond the classroom or studio
- Connect with peers across year groups and with graduates working in the field
- Build confidence in presenting and discussing your ideas in a supportive peer environment
- Engage with current topics in media, culture, and global justice
- Be part of building a culture of critical practice within CDM
For graduates, subtext is also an invitation to remain connected - to share what you’ve learned since leaving, to mentor and inspire those coming after you, and to stay part of a community of practice.
