Behind the Music: TU Dublin Philharmonic Opens Rehearsal Doors to the Community

The TU Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra is set to offer the public a rare behind-the-scenes experience when it opens its rehearsal doors to the local community on Friday, 13 February 2026, as part of an in-person event hosted by Department of Orchestral Studies, Conservatoire the Sustainability Education Community of Practice. 

Taking place from 5.45pm to 8.00pm at East Quad, Grangegorman (D07 XFF2), the event invites attendees to step inside the creative process of a professional orchestra as it prepares for the third concert of its 2025/26 season. Under the baton of acclaimed conductor David Brophy, the orchestra will rehearse music from its upcoming programme, Love & Tragedy: Romeo & Juliet. 

The rehearsal offers a unique opportunity to witness how musicians and conductor collaborate, refine interpretation and shape sound in advance of performance. The concert itself, taking place on 14 February, will feature some of the most emotionally charged works in the classical repertoire, including Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet and Brahms’s Double Concerto, Op. 102. World-class soloists Mia Cooper (violin) and Martin Johnson (cello) will join the orchestra for what promises to be a powerful and unforgettable programme. 

On February 13, the evening will begin at 5.45pm in the Recital Room, East Quad, with a welcome from Laoise O’Brien, Executive Producer of the TU Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra, alongside Kevin Hanafin, Head of Discipline at the Conservatoire. At 6.30pm, attendees will move to the Concert Hall to observe the orchestra in full rehearsal.
