TU Dublin MAPR Students Host SymPRandA 2025 on Truth and Trust in Modern Communications

As the boundaries between truth and unreliable communication blur, MA in Public Relations students and staff at TU Dublin host SymPRandA 2025, the third annual Symposium in Public Relations and Public Affairs, at East Quad in Grangegorman on Friday, 11 April, and all are welcome to attend this free event.
This year’s symposium will honour the late Joe Heron, a 2008 graduate of the first MA in Public Affairs and Political Communication. The Joe Heron Keynote Address will be delivered by John Devitt, CEO of Transparency International Ireland, setting the stage for this year’s theme, ‘Truth and Trust in a Time of Trumpery’. With increasing difficulty in finding truth, trust, and credibility in modern communication, the theme brings together scholars and experts in media, public relations and political affairs to examine the impact of superficial and disposable communications on public perception and trust.
The term ‘trumpery’, unconnected to any contemporary figure, refers to deceit, over-dramatisation, and ostentation. Recognising trumpery allows professionals and the public to decipher the truth and trustworthiness of different media content. The symposium will feature panel discussions and presentations on the corrosive effects of trumpery and strategies to mitigate its impact of within communication for greater transparency in public communications.
SymPRandA 2025 will provide a platform for scholars and professionals in media, communications, and politics to engage in critical discussions, share experiences and opinions, and develop strategies to restore truth and trust in communications.
