About: Dr Con Kennedy is a Communication Designer from Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Kennedy graduated in 1995 from the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) with a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication Design. Before forming his graphic design studio in 2006, he worked at a senior level in several of Ireland's leading creative agencies. In 2009, Dr Kennedy was conferred with his Master of Arts in Professional Design practice. He began lecturing at the school as a part-time lecturer the following year before taking up a permanent position in 2016. He now lectures in Visual Communication Design and Design Entrepreneurship at TU Dublin School of Art and Design.
His design work has been featured in Creative Review (UK), Graphic Design (USA), Page Magazine (Germany), Logo Lounge Design Trends, Logo Lounge Master Library Volume 3, and Logolicious. He has also contributed to the book Work for Money, Design For Love. He has engaged in several public-facing projects, including Dublin Canvas and ZigZag Seat.
Dr Kennedy delivers several graphic design, design theory and design entrepreneurship modules on the TU973 Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Design - Visual Communication, TU975 Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Interior Design, TU795 Bachelor of Arts in Visual Merchandising & Display, and the TU381 Master of Arts in Graphic Design Practice programmes. Dr Kennedy also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
Dr Kennedy's research contributions are significant, delivering research papers at several international design conferences and been published in peer-reviewed journals; he was a co-researcher for the Irish Government's Policy Framework for Design In Enterprise in Ireland and was a consultant for the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs' Winning by Design report.
Dr Kennedy's professional affiliations are extensive, reflecting his deep involvement in the design community and his recognition by his peers. He is a former council member of the Institute of Designers in Ireland, and in 2015, he was made a Fellow of the Institute. Dr Kennedy is Co-Founder and Design Editor of Iterations - Design Research and Practice Review journal; he holds a Doctorate of Philosophy from TU Dublin's School of Marketing and Entrepreneurship for his research on entrepreneurship processes for design enterprises and is currently a member of the university's Academic Council and TU Dublin Student Enrollments and Growth Committee.
Dr Kennedy is also a member of the advisory board for the Liberties Festival.
