Project Title:  Exploring if TU Dublin's BA (Hons.) Culinary Arts Programme had a Transformative Impact on Graduates in the period 2003 - 2023.

Project Abstract:

This study presents original research in the field of Culinary Arts education in Ireland. It aims to explore the lived experience of graduates of the BA (Hons.) Culinary Arts as they navigated the course, and to also determine how the programme impacted their lives and career paths thereafter.

The study is underpinned by Transformative Learning Theory and focuses on the educational philosophy of the BA Culinary Arts programme. This research is timely as 2003 marked the 20th anniversary of the programme’s first graduating cohort.

The study employs narrative inquiry methodology and contains an emic perspective as the researcher is both a graduate of the BA (Hons.) Culinary Arts and now lectures on the programme.

This study is of interest to culinary educators and culinary programme committees as a valuable resource highlighting the pedagogies utilised in Irish culinary education in recent times.
