Dr Nicola Hughes is a Lecturer in Criminology in the School of Social Science, Law and Education at the Technological University Dublin. Her main area of interest is in the field of desistance from crime, particularly for young adults, and the impact of education on desistance from crime. She is also interested in the fear of crime and in particular, its impact on those living in rural communities. Nicola was involved in the establishment of the PGDip in Criminology at TU Dublin and until recently, was the Programme Coordinator for the MA in Criminology.
In addition to her lecturing, curriculum development and postgraduate supervision roles Nicola has published and presented extensively on her research, both in Ireland and in Europe.
Nicola was a National Expert for a European wide study on crime statistics and a scientific expert for the Growing Up in Ireland Study.
Research Interests:
Desistance from crime, young adults and desistance from crime and fear of crime.
