Ray Keaney was appointed Head, Hospitality Management Discipline at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management in September. 2025. He previously held the positions of lecturer, programme chair and Head of Department of Management. He is a member of the Irish government’s ‘Tourism Policy Oversight Group’, and the European Commission’s expert group ‘Together for EU Tourism’ (T4T). He represents TU Dublin on the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) Council, Fáilte Ireland’s Association Conference Strategy Implementation group, the European Tourism Manifesto group and the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) Ireland working group. He is a Fellow of the Irish Hospitality Institute and a member of the European Movement Ireland.

His main research interest is international tourism policy. He has led the development of tourism policy roundtables in the European Parliament, Brussels, and elevated tourism as a strategic asset within political discourse. He served as Chair of the EU’s T4T 'Tourism Strategies' sub-group, Co-Chair of its 'Governance in Tourism Destinations' sub- group and a member of the 'Renewing Tourism Education' sub-group. He is an invited speaker at recent industry events such as the Society of Incentive Travel (SITE) Global Conference 2025, City Destinations Alliance’s (CityDNA) CEO Meeting 2026, Association of Irish Professional Conference Organisers Annual Conference 2026, and the Irish Hotels Federation Annual Conference 2026.
