Qualifications: MSc Mgmt., Dip Philosophy, BBS (Honours) HRM

I teach people management subjects on the following programmes in TU Dublin, Tallaght campus: Bachelor of Business (Honours) in the management and accounting streams. I also have extensive experience  in teaching HRM courses for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and Intel (Leixlip).

During the period 1991-97, I worked in Dublin City University as an associate lecturer,  teaching courses in human resource management and employment relations to undergraduate and  graduate students. I was an associate professor in University of Dublin, Trinity College (1997-2018) teaching and supervising dissertations on the strategic people management module for the master’s in health services management.

Overseas lecturing involved teaching a one semester course in international management to undergraduate students in New Rochelle College, New York (1996).

I believe I  have great empathy with the students and enjoyed being a programme tutor for the last four years.

Academic management experience includes work in developing  a Bachelor of Business programme for Intel (Ireland) in 2005. During the period 2010-14 worked in partnership with University College Cork in  developing a joint MSc in Organisational Development. In 2001 was an  advisor to a consortium of HR executives in Malta on the establishment of a professional institute. I also served on  two project groups for CIPD , which were a driving force behind the development of the Institute’s new professional standards, launched in 2021.

I have  a primary honours degree from the University of Limerick in business studies (1980) and a master’s degree in management and organisation behaviour (1989)  from Dublin University, Trinity College. Completed a diploma in philosophy (2011) at the Milltown Institute.  I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development

My professional work spans over three decades in human resource management and management consulting. Early career was in HRM with the BTR Group (UK) and latterly as the Head of Personnel, Ernst & Young from 1985-1992. I then worked in consulting with The Reward Group and MERC partners. Major assignments mostly in the health sector, financial services, industry representative groups and high technology multinationals -involved working in the design and implementation of performance management systems, the design of salary and bonuses for senior management and the work also included occasional executive search assignments.

Research interests for potential research students
