John Butler visits D7 Educate Together school
John Butler visited the D7 Educate Together school to talk to students about higher education, the variety of opportunities to study exciting subjects and to highlight the applications of mathematics.
Dr John Butler spent the morning of Monday 16 May 2022 with 3rd and 4th class students at the D7 Educate Together. Dr Butler spoke about being a lecturer and researcher and how mathematics can be used to investigate different questions in Neuroscience.
To demonstrate how mathematics is used in research, the students conducted an experiment to show how to collect, analyse, plot and interpret real data. The experiment was based upon some of Dr Butler’s previous research on how visual and non-visual cues are combined for walking. The students were very engaged and had many energetic and enthusiastic questions about maths, neuroscience, machine learning and beyond.
