Mathematics & statistics supporting Convene, a university-enterprise engagement project

Published: 10 Sep, 2021

The School of Mathematical Sciences is a partner, focusing on FinTech, in the Covene project, led by Technological University Dublin, that seeks to transform university-enterprise engagement.

Convene was awarded Irish Government funding of €17.5 million in 2020 under the Human Capital Initiative Pillar 3 and is a partnership between higher education and enterprise.  Led by Technological University Dublin, it will address the emerging skills requirements of enterprise and aims to increase the opportunities for life-long learning and upskilling.  Covene brings together the expertise and capabilities of schools, centres and individuals across Technological University Dublin and is a collaboration with the UCD Innovation Academy.  The School of Mathematical Sciences is one of twelve TU Dublin academic schools, ten TU Dublin professional service units, five TU Dublin research centres, three TU Dublin innovation centres, and thirty-seven founding Enterprise Partners that will be working together under Convene.

Mathematics and statistics will contribute to the ICT/FinTech sector - one of the seven major employment sectors (Tourism, Food & Drink, Creative and Cultural, Social Enterprise, ICT/FinTech, MedTech and Pharma) addressed through Convene.  In particular, the School of Mathematical Sciences is currently developing professional learning opportunities with its enterprise partners within the Fin/Reg/Insure|Tech sectors to provide access to the modern skills and statistical, data and mathematical understanding required in this area.

Convene’s mission has increased importance following the disruption of COVID-19 as businesses seek to reinvigorate themselves.  Convene will supports recovery through the transformative impact of its shared learning platform at the intersection of enterprise, education and research in Dublin.
