Research
Research in the School is conducted by academic staff and published in journals and presented at conferences, nationally and internationally. The School has a good reputation of engaging in public debate and publishing regularly in national newspapers and other media.
Research is also carried out by M.Phil. (Masters in Philosophy) and Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) students. Their research interests vary widely, but all revolve around some aspect or other of Surveying and Construction Management.
MPhil and PhD Research Programmes
As a postgraduate research student, you will complete your specialised research project in an interdisciplinary research environment and, simultaneously, you will develop a range of discipline specific and transferrable skills compatible with industry requirements. Postgraduate research qualifications within the SSCM can be undertaken on a Full Time (FT) or Part Time (PT) basis and may relate to any of the specialisms within the School. Students will work with guidance from an experienced supervisor in the planning, development and execution of a research project of their choice that is of the highest academic standard while remaining industry relevant.

Job Description
TU Dublin is the lead organisation for the large-scale Build Digital Project funded by the Department of Public Enterprise and Reform (DPER) on a fixed term (12 months) specified purpose basis. The project involves a national collaboration across five Higher Education Institutions. We are seeking a suitably qualified, ambitious, and motivated candidate to work as a research officer for the Build Digital Project. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing the associated TU Dublin deliverables were specified regarding the Build Digital Project Work Package. The successful candidate should be flexible and have an inquisitive nature, as evidenced through research activities in an appropriate and relevant area to the project. The successful candidate will report directly to the TU Dublin Build Digital Project Leads
Principal Accountabilities
The advertised position provides an opportunity to join the TU Dublin Build Digital team. The successful candidate will carry out research with a focus on the area of Standards and Procurement in the context of the Digital Built Environment, both nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will also undertake research focusing on Education and Leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for research work, project management, collaboration with the project partners and the wider project team and will be involved in extensive external engagement with the Construction Industry in Ireland and Internationally.
The project may involve travel to and from relevant industry sites and travel to partner meetings and conferences as required.
The post requires a person with appropriate qualifications associated with the areas of digital / collaborative construction / engineering. This person will ideally have experience working and researching in a discipline area or, ideally, across disciplines within the AEC (Architecture Engineering Construction) sector.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below:
Knowledge
- PhD Degree in a relevant discipline (Essential).
- Evidence of dissemination of research (Essential).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills (Essential).
Skills, talents & abilities
- Strong level of technical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- High level of technical competency in relation to BIM software and related tools.
- High level of technical competency in relation to BIM Standards i.e. ISO 19650
- The potential candidate should be self-motivated with an aptitude for creative problem-solving, along with the flexibility to adapt to new tools and techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
- Have knowledge / understanding of the Irish Capital Works Management Framework.
- Present results/methods in written and oral form to internal and external stakeholders.
- Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Able to work independently as a self-starter and as part of the wider project team.
- Capable of directing and interfacing with the work of collaborators (including at remote locations).
- Ability to build and document knowledge and share information about latest methods, trends, and developments in the relevant field of activity.
- Manage development aspects of the project according to aligned project briefs.
- Fluency in English and excellent written and oral presentation skills.
Salary
The successful candidate will be aligned to the Post-Doctoral Researcher Scale for pay (Position is for 12 months)
