Dr Finn Purcell-Milton is an Assistant Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry in the School of Chemical and BioPharmaceutical Sciences at TU Dublin, where he has taught since 2021. He teaches inorganic chemistry across Years 1 to 4, coordinates chemistry for TU855 Science with Nanotechnology, and supervises final-year research projects in nanomaterials chemistry.
His research focuses on sustainable, heavy-metal-free quantum dots and nanomaterials. His group develops low-cost, water-based Cu–In–(Zn)–S quantum dots for luminescent solar concentrators, along with greener nanoparticle synthesis in deep eutectic solvents. He also brings computational skills to this work, using Python for data analysis and simulation and developing AI-assisted research software with large language models.
Finn holds a BSc in Chemistry from University College Dublin, an MSc in Materials Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD from Trinity College Dublin. He then spent seven years as a postdoctoral researcher at Trinity, working on chiral nanomaterials and 2D-material membranes. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and won a Science Foundation Ireland Technology Innovation Development Award in 2017.
