TU Dublin Graduates Eligible to Vote in New Seanad Higher Education Constituency
Graduates of Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) and its legacy institutions are now eligible to vote in Seanad Éireann elections following a landmark reform of the Seanad electoral system.
Significant changes introduced last year have reshaped how six senators are elected, with the establishment of a new six-seat Seanad Éireann Higher Education constituency. This reform replaces the former National University of Ireland (NUI) and University of Dublin (Trinity College Dublin) constituencies and extends voting rights to graduates from a much broader range of higher education institutions.
As a result, graduates of TU Dublin, as well as those who graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT) and Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB), are now entitled to register to vote in Seanad elections, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
Through the new constituency, thousands more graduates nationwide can now claim their vote in the election of senators to Seanad Éireann. Eligible applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be an Irish citizen
- Hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a designated higher education institution
The deadline to apply for inclusion on the register is 26 February 2026, and the register will be published on 1 June 2026.
This reform is being supported by a nationwide multimedia awareness campaign recently launched by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, with backing from the National University of Ireland and higher education institutions across the country.
TU Dublin encourages all eligible graduates to ensure they are registered and to take part in this important democratic process.
