TU Dublin Career Development Centre Receives "Highly Commended" Recognition at AHECS Employability Awards 2025

Published: 11 Apr, 2025

TU Dublin is proud to announce that our Career Development Centre achieved the “Highly Commended” award in the category of Supporting Student / Graduate Employability at the AHECS Employability Awards 2025. This achievement underscores the dedication and impact of our submission, titled: Mental Health Matters – supporting students transition from Higher Education into employment. The AHECS Awards recognise outstanding work by career professionals across the island of Ireland, and we are thrilled to see our team’s efforts acknowledged at this national level.

Jigsaw (the National Centre for Youth Mental Health) and UCD School of Psychology’s My World Survey 2 found that 58% of higher education students were classified as outside the normal range for depression and anxiety. This was Ireland’s most comprehensive study of young people’s mental health to date. The top three stressors students identified were college, finances, and the future. Knowledge of these students’ needs, along with the considerations required when supporting them, is currently lacking in national career guidance training. Similarly, no training had been offered to AHECS members in relation to how best to support these students’ career decisions.

The TU Dublin Career Development Centre offers a wide range of supports to help students and graduates take confident steps toward their future careers. Services include personalised career guidance, CV and interview preparation, job search strategies, graduate opportunities, workshops, and access to online career tools. The Centre also provides tailored support for students facing additional challenges, including mental health difficulties, through resources like the Mental Health Matters programme.
