TU Dublin Academic Dr Adnan Velic Wins Barrington Medal for 2026
Dr Adnan Velic, a Lecturer of Economics in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, has been awarded the hugely prestigious Barrington Prize by The Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland (SSISI). The prize includes a silver medal and €2500.
The Barrington Medal is awarded annually by the Council of the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland (SSISI) under the auspices of the Barrington Trust (founded in 1836 by the bequest of John Barrington). The award is intended to recognise a promising new researcher in the economic and social sciences in Ireland.
Dr Velic was selected as this year's winner based on his research record to date and his proposed Barrington Lecture topic. As part of the award, Dr Velic will give the Barrington Lecture on "International Co-movements and Persistence in Irish Inflation: A Nonlinear Approach” in May. The lecture will explore how Ireland's inflation comoves with international inflation, and its implications for the persistence of local inflation. His paper will be subsequently published in the Journal of the Society.
On learning of winning the award, Dr Adnan Velic said:
