TU Dublin Conservatoire Student Wins Prestigious Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year Award
TU Dublin Conservatoire student Mickey Glen Tomas has been awarded First Prize in the highly prestigious Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year competition, which took place on Saturday evening.
Recognised as one of Ireland’s most esteemed classical music competitions, the event began on Thursday with a semi-final featuring twelve outstanding musicians representing Ireland’s three major music colleges. TU Dublin was proudly represented by four students in this stage of the competition. From the semi-final, four finalists were selected to perform in the Grand Final on Saturday night.
Mickey, a final-year Bachelor of Music (BMus) student at the Conservatoire, studies piano under the guidance of Dr David Mooney, Head of Keyboard Studies.
In addition to the €8,000 first prize, Mickey will enjoy a series of exciting professional engagements, including performances with the National Symphony Orchestra, Newry Chamber Music Young Artists Showcase, Monkstown Music Festival, and RTÉ Lyric FM. He also received a special new prize of a recital in Poland, offered by a member of the international jury who judged the competition.
