TU Dublin Cormac Comerford Graduate Selected for Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics
Cormac Comerford, a graduate of Manufacturing & Design Engineering, has been selected as one of four Irish athletes to compete at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
Cormac grew up in Glenageary and first learned to ski at the dry slopes in Kilternan through the Ski Club of Ireland. Despite rarely seeing snow growing up, he developed a passion for alpine skiing at a young age. Watching fellow Irish skier Shane O’Connor compete at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics helped cement his ambition to one day become an Olympian.
At 29, Cormac will compete in all four alpine skiing events at Milano Cortina: downhill, super-G, giant slalom and slalom, his preferred discipline. He has previously met the Olympic qualifying standard on four occasions and competed in five World Championships, finishing inside the top 30 in the European Cup.
Cormac has balanced elite sport alongside education and work throughout his career and credits the support he received from the TU Dublin Elite Sport team while studying at TU Dublin as an important factor in continuing his competitive journey. He now works as a mechanical engineer in the off-season while spending winters training and competing across Europe.
Milano Cortina 2026 will be Cormac’s first Olympic Games and marks the realisation of a lifelong sporting ambition.
