Global SciVal and Scopus Certification Programs 2025

Researchers, librarians, and academic professionals within TU Dublin are invited to participate in the Global SciVal and Scopus Certification Programs, designed to enhance skills such as research analysis and discovery. Free for TU Dublin applicants, the programs offer interactive training experiences. Modules can be completed at your own pace however participants are expected to complete the program within six weeks.

Global SciVal Certification Program

SciVal is a research performance assessment database that analyses the data pulled from Scopus. It allows you to evaluate the bibliometrics of a research field or of an individual or group of researchers, departments, institutions, and countries.

The SciVal Certification Program is a comprehensive, six-week course designed to equip participants with the skills to effectively use SciVal, a leading research analytics tool. The program is structured into six modules that aim to develop core competencies in research evaluation. Each module is designed to take approximately 60 to 90 minutes to complete, with one new module released each week.

The six modules include:

  1. Getting Started with SciVal
  2. Using Metrics in SciVal
  3. Institutional Insights
  4. Working with Researchers
  5. Working with Reports
  6. Rolling Out SciVal at Your Institution

Participants will engage in an interactive learning environment with video tutorials, quizzes, and a community forum where they can discuss their progress and share insights with other course members. To earn the certification, participants must achieve an 80% or higher on each module’s final quiz.

Global Scopus Certification Program

Scopus is a database for scientific, medical and technical information, with some limited AHSS content as coverage varies from one discipline to the next. The Scopus Certification Program is a six-week training experience designed specifically for library professionals. The course provides librarians with the tools and knowledge they need to support their institution's research needs and empower users with better access to academic resources.

This program covers six key modules:

  1. Topical Search
  2. Author Identity
  3. Metrics
  4. APIs
  5. Institutional Insights
  6. User Outreach

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion, which can be proudly shared on their professional profiles.

2025 Cohort Start Dates:

  • Cohort 1: February 24
  • Cohort 2: April 28
  • Cohort 3: September 22
