TU Dublin to Host ERASMUS Research Showcase at FOCAS
TU Dublin is delighted to welcome members of the academic, research, and industry communities to a special event celebrating the work of ERASMUS students at the Physical to Life Sciences Research Hub. The showcase will take place on Wednesday, August 6, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the FOCAS Building Seminar Room.
This engaging session offers a platform for ERASMUS students to present their research while encouraging meaningful discussions, new connections, and potential collaborations. Attendees will also gain insight into active research areas at TU Dublin, with a focus on interdisciplinary work across physical and life sciences.
Explore Innovative Research
Participants will get a closer look at the work being carried out in two leading TU Dublin centres: the NanoLab Research Centre and the Centre for AMR and One Health Research (CAMROH). Short presentations will give attendees an overview of each student’s project, followed by time for Q&A and informal discussion.
Student Presentations
- Estelle Le Squin, in collaboration with Dr Elena Alexa (CAMROH), will present:
‘Uncovering Novel Antimicrobial-Producing Microorganisms in Soil Environments,’ exploring soil as a source for new antimicrobial compounds. - Maëlys Bradier and Elise Bonjour, working with Emmanuel Duah Osei and Dr. Azza Silotry Naik, will discuss their research into the techno-functional properties and bioactivity of protease-hydrolysed spent grains, a project at the intersection of food science and sustainability.
- Chiara Olive, supervised by Swati Kashik and Prof. Hugh Byrne, will share insights from her study: ‘Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Micro-spectroscopy as a Label-Free Method for Monitoring the Glycolysis Pathway in A549 Cells,’ highlighting a non-invasive technique to study cancer cell metabolism.
- Joshua Maxwell and Tristan Zaharciks, collaborating with Prof. Sebastian Schwaminger from the Medical University of Graz, will present research contributions that expand the international and interdisciplinary scope of the event.
Why Attend?
This showcase is designed for:
- Industry professionals exploring collaborative research possibilities
- Researchers and academics seeking to engage with emerging talent
- Students and staff interested in project development and scientific exchange
Attendees will have the chance to speak directly with the students and their mentors, discuss research methodologies, and explore future projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
