Bilal Javed

Principle Investigator/ Food Science & Environmental Health
Dr. Bilal Javed is an Assistant Lecturer (Assistant Professor, below the bar) in Biochemistry (Industrial Biotechnology) at the School of Food Science and Environmental Health, Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin). He earned his PhD in Biology from Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, with a research focus on the organic synthesis of supramolecular assemblies and the development of nanomaterials for biomedical applications. As part of his PhD research, Bilal moved to the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Dr. Virgil Percec, where he worked on the synthesis and self-assembly of organic vesicles (dendrimersomes) for targeted drug delivery. His research also involved the bioinspired synthesis of surface-modified glycodendrimers and their assembly into glycodendrimersomes to mimic natural cell surfaces, enabling the study of glycan-galectin interactions that are not possible to study by using living cells. After completing his PhD, Bilal joined TU Dublin as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Furong Tian. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Regulation at TU Dublin. Dr. Javed is committed to advancing interdisciplinary research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on health, well-being, and environmental protection, as well as contributing to Ireland’s national research priorities as part of the Impact 2030 strategy.
