Dr. Tarun Kanti Sarkar is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) SUSTAIN-FIT Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Technological University Dublin, based in the Nanolab Research Centre under the supervision of Dr. Furong Tian. His fellowship project, SMART-COAT (2026–2029), is run in collaboration with Graph Engineering Ltd. and develops sustainable, multifunctional nanocoatings for corrosion protection of aerospace-grade aluminium alloys.
Dr. Sarkar received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, India, and then held a SERB National Postdoctoral Fellowship at CSIR–Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun. Before joining TU Dublin, he was a faculty member at IFTM University, Moradabad (2022–2026), where he taught and led research in applied chemistry and corrosion science.
His research combines experimental electrochemistry with computational modelling to design and understand corrosion inhibitors and protective coatings. He has particular expertise in organic inhibitors, including N-heterocyclic compounds, carbon dots and hybrid molecules, for steel in aggressive acidic environments. He uses gravimetric analysis, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarisation, together with surface characterisation (SEM, XPS, AFM) and computational methods including density functional theory (DFT) and Monte Carlo simulations.
Dr. Sarkar has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications, with an h-index of 21, in journals including Langmuir, Surfaces and Interfaces, Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry and Journal of Molecular Structure. He also serves as a reviewer for international journals including Electrochimica Acta, Carbon and Journal of Colloid and Interface Science.
