Industry-University Collaboration Driving Innovation

Huawei, a global leader in technology and telecommunications, is also a significant contributor to the renewable energy sector. Its advanced solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter and battery energy storage technologies are deployed across industries worldwide. In Ireland, Huawei has maintained a strong presence for over 20 years, serving more than 3 million people and supporting over 860 direct and indirect jobs.

TU Dublin, one of Ireland’s foremost providers of business education, has a long-standing relationship with Huawei. It’s Enterprise Academy plays a central role in facilitating engagement between industry and academia, working across sectors to broker partnerships with TU Dublin faculties and schools. These collaborations result in flexible, scalable, and accredited educational solutions that address real-world business needs.

In developing this year’s Huawei Business Sustainability Enterprise Challenge, TU Dublin worked closely with Huawei to understand its strategic objectives and co-design a student enterprise challenge programme tailored to those needs.

Developing Critical Skills Through Enterprise Challenges

The core objective of the Huawei Business Sustainability Enterprise Challenge is to develop real-world business cases for the deployment of solar PV and battery energy storage solutions across Irish industries. Student proposals are required to align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring a strong focus on environmental and social impact.

To support students in their research and proposal development, a series of workshops and clinics will be held throughout the semester. These sessions are designed to deepen students’ understanding of the technologies involved and provide guidance on applying sustainability principles in a business context.

Final proposals will be presented to a panel of Huawei experts and TU Dublin faculty, with the most innovative and impactful projects showcased at a poster exhibition and awards ceremony on December 9th 2025 at TU Dublin Grangegorman.
