School of Food Science and Environmental Health celebrates the launch of the MSc. in Brewing and Distilling

Today we are celebrating the launch of the MSc. In Brewing and Distilling with the School of Food Science and Environmental Health at the TU Dublin Grangegorman campus.

This MSc. in Brewing & Distilling is the next step in a suite of stackable programmes co-developed with industry partners in the beverage sector. This exemplar provision offers participants an opportunity to obtain a formal qualification for future employment in the drinks industry in Ireland or abroad. It includes modules on the technical aspects of brewing and distilling, appreciation of spirits and beers, beverage analysis, microbiology, regulation and the opportunity to acquire hands-on practical experience in these disciplines.

The development of accredited postgraduate programmes in this area began with the Enterprise Academy Fellowship, undertaken by Dr. Ciara Walsh via an Industry-Academic Engagement Study of the Brewing and Distilling Sector in Ireland.

The event kicked off with a fascinating tour of TU Dublin’s state of the art Brewing and Distilling laboratory, highlighting several products and research projects undertaken in the School of Food Science and Environmental Health, facilitated by Dr. Graham O'Neill and Dr. Catherine Barry-Ryan.

Will Keating led an expert panel discussion entitled "Bubbling up" - the state of the Irish drinks industry with industry experts Neale Young (Diageo), Enda Winters (Teeling Whiskey) and Marie Byrne (founder & director Chinnery Spirits and adjunct lecturer) Dr. Catherine Barry-Ryan (Programme Chair of the MSc. in Brewing and Distilling) officially launched the programme which is now open for applications.

The Enterprise Academy is delighted to support the School of Food Science and Environmental Health in this endeavour. We wish the participants of the programme the very best in their academic journey.
