Assessment Regulations

In September 2025 (for the 2025-26 academic year onwards), new TU Dublin Assessment Regulations will be implemented

Two summary Guides have been developed to highlight the key changes in these new assessment regulations:

A number of Supplementary Guides have been developed to assist the implementation of these new assessment regulations as follows: 

Guide 1:  Integration of Key Strategic Objectives & QA-QE Procedures
which includes Principles of Student Assessment and Modular Framework for Assessment (Student Progression; Assessment for Award; Roles and Responsibility of Examiners).
for Student Achievement ―Understanding Grades, Calculation of GPA, and determination of Student Academic Standing in Structured Progression.  The grading structure was informed by the GPA Position Paper May 2024.

Guide 3:
  Assessment Boards Process/Procedures― Module Assessment Board (MAB), Programme Assessment Board (PAB), Marginal Regrades, Compensatory Pass Grade, Regulations for Reassessment, Deferral of Assessment and Extenuating Circumstances. [Currently under development in consultation with Faculties].

Guide 4:
 Understanding Student Academic Standing
in Structured Progression― Programme Complete, Pass Progress, Programme Incomplete, Fail Resit/Fail Repeat, Progression Carrying Credits, and Appeal of Assessment Results.

which includes details on Feedback and Viewing of Completed Assessments, Recheck/Remark of Assessment, and Appeal of Assessment Results.

Guide 10:  Calculators in Examination: 
The University has adopted the State Examination Commission (SEC) listing in relation to the use of permitted Calculators (SEC List) in Examinations. A calculator not specifically listed is prohibited, unless approved in advance by your School. Contact your School with model details for queried calculators well in advance of any exams. Examinations staff or invigilators will not be in a position to make judgement on a calculator in an examination venue.
