Join the Campus Walkability Audit – Your Input Matters

CRAWL (Campus’ Role as Actors in Walkable and Liveable Communities) is delighted to invite students and campus users to participate in a walkability research project.
What the project is about:
The CRAWL project aims to improve the walkability of TU Dublin’s campuses by gathering feedback from students. Walkability measures how easy and comfortable it is to access local services and amenities by walking, rolling, or wheeling.
Campus Walkability Audit
By participating in the Campus Walkability Audit, students and campus users can share their experiences and help highlight areas that are highly walkable and those that need improvement. Your input will directly inform future campus designs, making TU Dublin a better place for everyone.

Why it's important
Feedback from campus users is crucial in creating a more accessible and enjoyable campus environment. Improved walkability can enhance daily experience, promote health and well-being, and foster a stronger sense of community.
How it benefits you and the campus community:
- Personal Impact: Your unique insights will help shape the campus to better meet your needs.
- Community Impact: Contributing to this project supports a more inclusive and connected campus for all students and staffs.
- The Ask: We need your help to complete a Campus Walkability Audit.
- We are particularly interested in hearing from students from underrepresented groups to ensure diverse perspectives are included. Your feedback will help us improve the walkability of our campus, making it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
Details of participation
As part of the survey, participants will be asked to fill out some basic demographic data. This includes whether you are a TU Dublin student or a staff member, your age range, and your gender identity. This helps CRAWL researchers understand the different perspectives that people may have about the walkability of TU Dublin’s campus based on demographic data. Your name will not be attached to the demographic data and your answers will be given a pseudonymised candidate number and transcribed to a digital database on TU Dublin's secure Mircosoft OneDrive. The survey will take approximately 1-2 minutes to complete.
Walkability Audits
If you consent to participate, you will be provided with a map of the campus. You will be asked to walk or wheel around the campus and/or its surroundings and mark a minimum of five locations you have visited (marked 1-5, and so forth). Once completed, you will be invited to talk to CRAWL researchers about each location marked and describe your experience of each marked location. If consent is provided, this conversation will be recorded using a TU Dublin audio recorder device. Your recording will be pseudonymised using your candidate number, and recordings will be transcribed and stored on TU Dublin's secure Mircosoft OneDrive.
