TU Dublin celebrated remarkable success at the prestigious Green Gown Awards, held last night in Birmingham, where the University achieved outstanding recognition for its commitment to sustainability and social impact.

TU Dublin won four awards, more than any other university, an impressive achievement given the level of competition from major institutions including Oxford, Loughborough, the University of Edinburgh, and St Andrews.

The TU Dublin Food Pantry was awarded First Prize for Creating Impact, recognising its powerful contribution to student wellbeing and sustainability across campus. As the winner in the UK & Ireland region in this category, TU Dublin will now automatically qualify for the International Green Gown Awards in the Creating Impact category.

In addition, Charlie Beaudelot was named Student Sustainability Champion of the Year, a phenomenal personal achievement that highlights their dedication to environmental action and student engagement.

TU Dublin also received two Highly Commended awards:

TU Dublin student Faith Omatayo attended on behalf of TrailblazHer, which was shortlisted for an award.

These awards were made possible through the invaluable support and guidance of the TU Dublin Sustainability Education Team - Olivia Freeman, Brian Gormley, Kenneth Boyle, and Lucia Walsh - whose work continues to empower students and staff to lead on sustainability initiatives across the University.

Brian Gormley, Head of Sustainability Education said:

"The fact that TU Dublin won more awards than any other University in the UK or Ireland is a tribute to the whole of University approach to Sustainability. The focus on sustainability is very well-suited to TU Dublin's approach to education which is practice-based, with employer engagement, and with supportive relationships throughout the University community.  It's gratifying to see that winners included students, academic staff, and professional staff from across the University. This underlines the whole of University approach and shows that together we can make a real impact."

Dr Olivia Freeman, TU Dublin Sustainability Education Lead said:
Last night’s Green Gown Awards ceremony at The Library of Birmingham was a powerful celebration of environmental and social sustainability in higher education across the UK and Ireland. To see TU Dublin not only win the Creating Impact award for the TU Dublin Food Pantry, but also have our own Charlie Beaudelot named Student Sustainability Champion of the Year, was truly inspiring. Standing in that room and watching our students, academic, and professional staff shine on an international stage filled me with immense pride. These achievements, along with two additional Highly Commended recognitions for Benefitting Societies (MA in Art and the Environment at Sherkin Island, led by Dr. Glenn Loughran) and Reporting with Influence (TU Dublin’s Climate Action Roadmap, led by Rosie Webb), demonstrate TU Dublin’s deep and enduring commitment to driving real, positive change for people and planet.

Congratulations to everyone involved on this fantastic achievement!
