Orla Mulrey is a Lecturer in Violin at the TU Dublin Conservatoire of Music and Drama, where she plays a central role in the Orchestral Department and is widely regarded as one of its most dedicated and sought-after teachers.

An inspiring pedagogue and experienced performer, Orla brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and insight to her teaching, which is grounded in her deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of young string players.
With a particular passion for ensemble training, Orla is known for the clarity and musicality she instils in her students, guiding them to develop both a rich, expressive string sound and a strong sense of collective music-making.

Drawing from her own professional experiences as a violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Cecilia, the New Irish Chamber Orchestra (prior to its move to Limerick), and in chamber music projects with her TU Dublin colleagues, Orla brings real-world expertise and musical rigour to every rehearsal and lesson.  Within the Conservatoire, Orla is a key contributor to curriculum development and recruitment, offering invaluable guidance and insight to students, parents, and colleagues alike.

Her leadership of the Prelude Strings and Sinfonietta ensembles has provided generations of young musicians with their first experience of orchestral playing in a supportive and dynamic environment.  More recently, she has also joined the team at Dublin Youth Orchestras, working with Junior Strings to further expand her reach and influence among Ireland’s aspiring young string players.

Orla is deeply committed to the development of each student and continues to shape the musical journeys of countless young players, both as a teacher and as a vital member of the TU Dublin Conservatoire community.
