Quantity Surveying

The Quantity Surveyor is a Construction Cost Accountant. They work on residential, commercial, industrial, and civil projects. Their role is to prepare budget estimates for planned construction works and to value that work as the project proceeds. As part of a collaborative design team, they offer construction cost advice using 3D Building Image Modelling (BIM) and on-screen estimating software such as Cubit or CostX.

Teaching and assessment is by a variety of assessment methods including small group tutorials, field trips, project-based learning and examination. In third year, students spend an entire semester gaining work experience with a suitable employer organised by the University.

Graduates hold a Degree course which is recognised by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland for direct entry to the national register of Quantity Surveyors. Through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, this accreditation is recognised worldwide. Newly qualified Quantity Surveyors choose to work either in Private Practice Consultant Quantity Surveying firms such as KSN, Scollard Doyle and Linesight or alternatively for contractors such as John Paul Construction, Sisk or Collen Construction.
