SCSI Transition Year Programme – 2025
Transition Year Surveying Week at the School of Surveying & Construction Innovation (SSCI)
We recently had the pleasure of hosting 24 Transition Year students from over 14 schools across Ireland for an immersive Surveying Week. The students explored our five Surveying Disciplines: Quantity Surveying, Geo-surveying, Real Estate, Construction Management, and Digital Construction.
Highlights of the week included:
- Engaging lectures and presentations on SSCI disciplines and daily activities.
- A hands-on lab session on digital modeling.
- Site visits to landmark buildings in Dublin, thanks to JLL Ireland.
- Fieldwork using geospatial surveying equipment in King’s Inn Park, guided by our Geospatial Surveying students.
The week culminated in a wrap-up workshop at the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland SCSI HQ in Merrion Square, where graduate surveyors from the property economics degree helped the TY students deliver group presentations to the SSCI surveying team, SCSI education team, and SCSI President Kevin Hollingsworth. Each student was awarded a certificate of achievement for their hard work and engagement.
The students left with a deeper understanding of the surveying profession, impressed by the various pathways into TU Dublin programs and the social aspects of the field. They particularly enjoyed the site visits, fieldwork, and technical sessions.
A big thank you to our sponsors, JLL Ireland and the SCSI, and to Savills, CBRE, and Bannon for their support with site visits and graduate surveyors. We also appreciate the involvement of all the secondary schools in making this event a success.
