The School of Physics & Clinical & Optometric Sciences held its annual Work Placement Poster Seminar on Thursday, 9th October, in Central Quad, Grangegorman. The event celebrated the achievements of over 40 students who recently completed six-month placements across a wide range of professional settings.

The seminar provided students with the opportunity to present posters highlighting their experiences, research, and professional development during their placements. Staff, undergraduate students, and visitors gathered to engage with the presenters, learn about the diverse placement opportunities available, and celebrate the valuable role that work-based learning plays in the Physics programmes.

Final-year student Lucy McNamee was awarded Best Poster for her Erasmus placement at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Portugal, where she contributed to cutting-edge nanotechnology research.

Awards were also presented across several other categories, including Healthcare and Hospital, Applied Research, and Industry Placements, recognising the breadth of work undertaken by students and the impact of their contributions across sectors.

Dr Siobhan Daly, Head of School, congratulated all participants:

“The poster seminar is always a highlight of the year. It’s inspiring to see how our students apply their physics knowledge in real-world contexts, from hospitals and research labs to high-tech industries across Ireland and Europe.”

The event not only celebrated student achievement but also encouraged first, second and third-year students to consider the rich array of Physics placement opportunities and careers available to them.

Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and professionalism throughout their placements, and to Lucy McNamee for her outstanding poster presentation.
