Congratulations to Aleksandra Hernik

Time to celebrate Aleksandra Hernik, who successfully passed her PhD viva on 27 April 2026. Aleksandra's project, carried out as part of the SENNET Project, focused on developing low‑cost, selective VOC sensors using an optical sensor array based on diffraction optical transducers. She was co-supervised by Prof. Izabela Naydenova (TU Dublin) and Prof. Rob Ameloot (KU Leuven).

Many thanks to the external examiner Prof. Ali Yetisen and the two internal examiners Prof. Pat Goodman (TU Dublin) and Prof. Koen Clays (KU Leuven) and the Chair Prof Christine O'Connor for creating such a positive and constructive viva experience for Aleksandra.

Aleksandra's work was based at the IEO Centre and School of Physics, Clinical and Optometric Sciences at Technological University Dublin and at the Rob Ameloot's group at KU Leuven.
