Finance for Non-Financial Managers

Delivered by: Optimum

The ability to understand the financial health of an organisation is a vital skill for staff who have exposure to
finances and budgets. Financial statements offer a mosaic view into the health of an organisation so
understanding what they represent and how to interpret them is vital when it comes to making decisions.

In order to function effectively in business, all managers need to have a good understanding of finance, how
it affects the day-to-day operations of a business and its importance in the planning and decision-making
processes. This course is designed for managers from non-financial backgrounds to gain a better
understanding of the basic principles of business finance and become more confident in addressing matters
of a financial nature.

Participants will gain an insight into the financial tools used for day-to-day management of any company’s
finances and feel comfortable discussing and understanding this information. These skills will enhance their
ability to make decisions and to control operations more effectively.

On completion of this Training Module participants will be able to:

Understand key financial terminology and concepts.
Analyse and interpret financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, cash flow statements and
balance sheets.

Use costing information to support business decision-making.
Prepare and manage budgets effectively to plan for the future.
Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure financial stability.
Apply their understanding of financial information to make more informed operational and strategic
decisions.
