Growing scientific evidence indicates the mind and the body are not two separate entities - although they are often treated that way. Physical health and emotional health are intimately intertwined in what is known as the mid-body connection. Our chemistry and biology impact our mood and emotions as well as thoughts and beliefs. With all of these factors combined, they play a major role in influencing our stress and physical health. if you've ever felt your stomach tighten up when you were anxious, you've experience the mind-body connection.

The purpose of this workshop is to foster an understanding of the impact of race-based interactions in our daily lives. Participants will engage in experiential activities aimed at recognizing societal and cultural structures influenced by perceived race or ethnicity. By the end of the workshop, participants will gain practical tools to navigate these interactions with greater awareness and sensitivity.

Graphic Recording is a way of capturing information using a combination of single words, bullet points, doodles and directional arrows.

This is an experiential workshop on Graphic Recording. It will take place in-person and will involve a combination of short lectures with solo and group activities. 

At the end of the workshop, participants will have: 

  • An understanding of what Graphic Recording is 
  • Experience in using some basic techniques 
  • Suggestions for how this practice may be incorporated into their exisitng teaching practices to support student learning.

The workshop is a practical guide to the financial supports available to current and former international protection applicants and other migrants who want to attend university. By the end of the session participants will be able to:
• Define relevant immigration terminology
• Describe how a person’s immigration status can impact on their entitlement to financial supports to attend university
• List the financial supports available to this cohort of students
• Solve sample case studies reflecting real life situations

This workshop is tailored to the specific interpersonal challenges faced by support staff. It focuses on self-awareness, communication skills, setting boundaries, and managing workplace conflicts, with an emphasis on applying these skills to a variety of work settings, both in-person and online. The content is designed to be practical and directly applicable to daily tasks and interactions.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
• Gain self-awareness and learn how emotional triggers can impact their work relationships.
• Improve communication skills for both face-to-face and online interactions.
• Develop strategies to set and maintain boundaries with students, colleagues, and faculty.
• Learn how to manage conflicts effectively using emotional intelligence.
• Apply practical relationship-building techniques in their daily support roles.

Academic/ Support Staff Dealing with Students:

This session offers a foundational understanding of Autism, including its characteristics, diverse individual experiences, and relevant statistics. We’ll explore common autistic behaviors, the impact of sensory overload, and practical strategies for creating inclusive lectures.

Guidance will also be provided on managing challenging behaviors, classroom do’s and don’ts, and the supports available through the DSS.

The session concludes with a Q&A to address your queries.
