Supporting Teaching & Learning

Library Essentials is the programme of digital literacy and academic support provided by the Library Teaching & Learning team. Whether you’re an existing member of staff or new to TU Dublin, we’re here to support you and your students achieve academic success. Our supports include information sessions for staff on the library and its services, help with reading lists and ordering books, and tailored classes, tutorials and workshops supporting digital literacy. 

Library accounts: 

Your staff library account is automatically created once you collect your TU Dublin Staff ID. Contact Campus & Estates to request your staff ID.  

You automatically have access to online resources in the Library Collections e.g., ebooks, ejournals, and library databases via your TU Dublin email address.  

 

Staff consultations, Awareness and Train the Trainer sessions: 

Whether you are new to TU Dublin or need a refresher, one to one consultations awareness and train the trainer sessions are available to introduce you to the services, supports, and resources provided by Library Services. Your Faculty Liaison Librarian is available to offer an introductory or refresher consultation at any point throughout the year. Contact your Faculty Liaison Librarian to book a one-to-one consultation.  

 

Sessions can take place in person or online via MS Teams. 

The library provides access to a wide variety of resources and services, including print collections, online journals, library databases, and more.

Subject Guides: 

Subject guides help you navigate the resources relevant to the subject you are working in by presenting a smaller, more focused list of information sources.

Online tutorials: 

Our set of video tutorials will help you navigate the different collections and resources available to you. Visit the Finding Assignment Resources guide to learn more. 

 Our eResources guide provides guidance on how to access eResources, terms of use, information on new eResources added to library collections, and the online tools available to enhance your discovery of eResources.  

Module Reading Lists 

The library relies on the Programme Module Catalogue to ensure items listed on module reading lists are available in our collections. Please ensure your module reading lists are available on the Programme Module Catalogue and are up to dateOnce your reading list is uploaded, contact your Faculty Liaison Librarian to confirm the number of copies and format to be ordered

 

Once-Off Book Order Requests 

You can submit book order requests for individual print books or e-books throughout the year directly to your Faculty Liaison Librarian or via the book order form. Please include the number of students in your class and the module or program code and whether the book is an essential or recommended/supplementary text. Your Faculty Liaison Librarian can advise on the number of copies required, format and licencing options. 

 

Journals & Online Resources 

Contact the Faculty Liaison Librarian in your subject area if you have any questions regarding subscriptions to journals, library databases, or other online resources.

The library teaching and learning team provide a range of teaching supports including library tours, library database training and a range of student classes, tutorials and workshops.  

 

Library tours 

Library tours are available for class groups and smaller groups. You can book a library tour using our online Library Orientation Booking form or you can contact your Faculty Liaison Librarian. 

 

Library classes and workshops 

Library classes cover a range of topics from searching, evaluating and referencing information for assignments to literature review. Library classes can be booked using our online Library Orientation Booking form or you can contact your Faculty Liaison Librarian. 

 

Library Database training 

Database training is routinely provided by the Faculty Liaison Librarians. 

 If you feel training on a specific database would be beneficial to you or your students, we can facilitate training by the vendor/publisher. Contact your Faculty Liaison Librarian for more information.

  • If you are research active, our Research Services team can provide you with guidance and support for your research journey.

 

  • The Learning Teaching & Assessment team works closely with Faculties, Discipline Teams, programme teams and staff involved in teaching, to enhance teaching, learning and assessment at TU Dublin.   

 

 

  • The Disability Support Services aims to ensure that any student with a disability does not experience an educational disadvantage and that all students can access and equally participate in and benefit from educational opportunities in our University. The Disability Support Service provide confidential one-to-one needs assessments to all students registered with the service. The relevant supports are then put in place based on the recommendations of these needs assessments. The Disability Support Service also aids students in their adjustment to third-level education all of which complements the many student support services available to TU Dublin students.
