ARISE Project Staff

Dr. William Abbott joined TU Dublin in October 2025, as a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher under the ARISE project. His background is in materials science, with a strong focus on additive manufacturing, material characterisation, and optical materials. 

After receiving a B.A. in Physics & Chemistry of Advanced Materials, William began his PhD studies in 2014 at Trinity College Dublin, under the supervision of Prof. John Donegan. His research focused on improving the thermal stability of plasmonic devices for usage in solid-state hard drive manufacture. After successfully defending his thesis in 2018, he began a Research Fellowship in Trinity College Dublin, in collaboration with Prof. Rocco Lupoi. This work focused on the development of novel technologies for metal additive manufacturing, which led to the successful manufacture of a working prototype 3D-printer, and 3 patent applications.
